Applications for the 2025-2026 Mayor's Youth Advancement Council are now open! Students who will be in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade NEXT year, and attend a Jonesboro area high school (Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View, Westside, home-school, and private school) are encouraged to apply for The Mayor's Youth Advancement Council of Jonesboro! Applications are open from February 15, 2025, and close on April 1, 2025, for the 2025-2026 school year. Please fill out the application form for consideration. Two letters of recommendation are required for new members, one from a teacher or administrator at your school, and one from a community member. Be a voice for your community! Due to the timing of inclement weather forecasted tomorrow afternoon, Valley View Public Schools will dismiss two (2) hours early on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 with bus and car rider dismissal beginning at 1:00pm. All afterschool and evening activities, including the Excel afterschool program, are cancelled for Tuesday. It is our desire to provide this information on the district's planned early dismissal now so that our Valley View families can coordinate pickup and afterschool care accordingly. Thank you for your understanding as we seek to prioritize the safety of all our students, staff and Blazer families.

🎨🖌 Mrs. Counce’s Drawing Classes are putting their artistic skills to the test with portrait projects this week! 🖼️✨ Students have been learning about facial proportions, shading, and value techniques to bring their drawings to life. We can’t wait to see their finished masterpieces! 👏

🚀 Robotics in Action! 🤖 Mr. Krenn’s Robotics' students took hands-on learning to the next level by building robots with VEX kits and coding them to play freeze tag! ❄️🏃‍♂️ The students combined creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork to bring their robots to life in an exciting, interactive way.

Survivorship Curves… with Bubbles? 🫧🌎 In Mrs. Coat's Environmental Science class. students took a hands-on approach to studying survivorship curves—using bubbles! Each bubble represented a life, and students had different roles: protecting them, letting nature take its course, or popping them as quickly as possible. By gathering data from their experiment, they will model different types of survivorship curves and analyze real-world population dynamics. Learning about life expectancy has never been so poppable!

📢 Congratulations to Our Valley View Congressional App Challenge Winners, Hazim Ragab and Charles Kelley! 🎉💙💛 We are incredibly proud of our two Valley View students who placed 2nd in the Arkansas Congressional App Challenge with their creation of the Jonesboro 411 App! These students, both members of The Mayor’s Youth Advancement Council (MYAC), demonstrated innovation and leadership in developing an app to benefit our community. 🏆 Their achievement was recognized by Congressman Rick Crawford today at the at the NEA Career Tech Center. The students were celebrated alongside Mayor Copenhaver, his staff, VVHS administration and counselors, and the students’ families to celebrate this exciting accomplishment.
