Last Saturday, an impressive 30 junior high Blazers qualified for All-Region Choir. Congratulations to these talented students and to all the students that competed!

Things got intense in Coach Betts’s math classes last week—the students waged Integer War! Armed with decks of cards and lightning-fast math skills, the students battled it out adding positive and negative integers like true mathematician warriors. Who knew a card game could be so competitive and educational at the same time?
IT'S BOOKFAIR TIME! The junior high library will host a Scholastic bookfair on October 20-23. Students will be able to stop in for purchases on Monday through Wednesday, and the bookfair will be open to parents until 6:00 on conference night. Payment can be made by cash, debit, or checks.

It's pep rally and dodgeball day! We took a break after lunch for a little school spirit boosting and some spirited team competition.
October is National School Principals Month, a time to recognize the important work that principals do. Our principals and dean of students provide crucial support to teaching and learning: maintaining a safe and positive environment, hiring and supporting teachers, managing school resources, overseeing instruction and student achievement, modeling our shared vision and goals, and so much more. On Monday, nine Blazer Band members attended auditions for the South Region Orchestra. Selection for Orchestra is competitive and tough; students from all over Northeast Arkansas compete, and there are only two chair selections available for each instrument. Two of the nine Valley View students in attendance were among this year’s selections: Matthew Dauer, 1st Band – 2nd Chair French horn; and James Henry Crawley, 1st Band, 1st Chair – trombone. These students will attend the South Region Orchestra clinic in November where they will have just two days to learn, rehearse, and perform an entire concert. Congratulations to Matthew and James Henry, and congratulations to all nine students that qualified to audition for this unique and challenging opportunity.

Today, the junior high had to say goodbye to study hall teacher, Kirsten Clark. Ms. Clark and her family are relocating to Navarre Beach, Florida. We wish them all the best as they make a new home on the sunny and beautiful Gulf Coast.
Freshman students in Ms. Medlin's Family and Consumer Science classes have been learning how to create a pillow. Before the sewing began, they all took a short field trip to select and purchase the fabric that they would use.

Make-up photos will be taken on the morning of Friday, October 17th. Junior high students that missed school pictures in August are encouraged to have their picture taken at this time.
The junior high flu vaccine clinic will be on Thursday, October 23rd. Forms are being sent home with students today and they are also available on the district website. Completed forms should be returned to 4th period teachers on or before Monday, October 20th.

October is Bullying Awareness month. In every act of bullying there are three kinds of people: those that cause the harm, those that watch in silence, and those that rise to stop it. We encourage everyone in our Blazer family to stand up and speak out against bullying. It costs nothing to be kind, and preventing bullying is everyone’s business.
A few days ago, our seventh and eighth grade social studies classes joined in Arkansas’s Freedom Week by designing and creating unique artist trading cards to celebrate American freedoms and rights. Students gathered in the commons area for an exchange event, sharing their creativity and learning with one another while honoring values that unite all of us as Americans.
