On September 19th, the newest members of the National Junior Honor Society were admitted in an induction ceremony held in the Valley View Fine Arts Center. In addition to the academic requirements, student membership into NJHS is also contingent on character, leadership, and service requirements. This school year, Valley View Junior High is proud to have a remarkable 103 student members in this honor organization. Congratulations to all of these outstanding Blazers!



Homecoming week kicks off tomorrow with jersey day!

Dozens of junior high students were able to visit the Be Pro Be Proud mobile lab this week to learn more about skilled careers and do some exploring with an assortment of simulators. Be Pro Be Proud is a non-profit organization, founded in Arkansas, that travels to schools across multiple states to introduce new generations to America's skilled workforce.

Students have been learning and playing the centuries old game of badminton the past couple of weeks in PE classes. Many of them are beginning to discover that they really enjoy this lesser-known Olympic sport.









GLOW AND BEHOLD, the dance is tonight! It’s time for junior high Blazers to glow big or glow home. Tonight’s dance is going to be lit… literally actually. Join us for all the fun!

The junior high library invited Michaela Huss, Teen Librarian at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library, to visit this week. Ms. Huss spoke to students during the advisory period times about the youth services that are provided by our library system, and she promoted signing up for a digital library card. The public library provides dozens of really great activities for teenagers in addition to the extensive inventory of books and digital books.





Our teacher spotlight of the week is math teacher, Mallory Bartlett.
Blazers in every grade level participated in the food drive for the backpack program during the past two weeks. Junior high students stepped up to the challenge and donated hundreds of food items, and Mrs Frangenberg's advisory class collected the most. Last Friday, they were rewarded with donuts for their efforts.

Today, our students paused during activity period to watch a short memorial video and pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. In the past few days, students have been learning more about the horrific loss of life that transpired on this day. We remember those that perished, and we honor those that stand for freedom, justice, and peace.

Yesterday, in Ms. Lynch’s Career Development class, Jonesboro Fire Department Captain, Dustin Bellars, visited to talk to students about a career as a firefighter. He always does an amazing job speaking to the students and he takes time to answer all of their questions. Thank you Captain Bellars!
Students in Coach Rice's art classes have been busy creating some really awesome looking 3D Hand Line Drawings as they study an element of line lesson. The hallway display window is looking great with all these talented creations.
Last Friday, the class activity was fun, and also rather tasty, for the students in Mrs. Medlin’s Family and Consumer Science classes. They each prepared and cooked their own mini pizzas!
Yesterday, ninth-grade students in Mrs. Neal’s ELA class practiced their speaking and listening skills in an inner/outer circle activity on controversial issues in preparation for reading Unwind, a dystopian novel by Neal Shusterman.
